Literacy: This term we are thinking about rhymes. We will be focusing on Nursery Rhymes and Rhyming stories. In particular we will be trying to find pairs of words which rhyme and extend this into strings of rhyming words. We will also be concentrating on learning High Frequency words in Years 1 & 2 and initial sound recognition in Year R. We will be trying to write simple labels to support our topic work.

Your child needs your support with reading at home. Even when children are reading independently they still need to have stories read to them each day.

ICT:  Mrs Shackleton will be working with everyone on Friday mornings in the ICT suite. She will be teaching mouse control skills to Year R, the ‘2 Paint’ programme with Year 1 and  working on typing skills with ‘2 type’ to Year 2. We will also being using the interactive whiteboards in our classrooms to make learning fun!

R.E/PSHE/Citizenship: Continuing our work on Health we will be learning about how to keep ourselves healthy by eating the right foods, keeping active and looking after ourselves. In RE we will be thinking about God and how he created the world. We will also be thinking about the story of Christmas.

Numeracy: We will be concentrating on counting and ordering numbers. In Reception we will be trying hard to count objects to 10 and to write numbers with the correct formation. In Year 1 we will be continuing to build on knowledge and work confidently with numbers to 20 and beyond. In Year 2 we will be working on recognition of larger numbers, place value and addition and subtraction.

Topic: This term our focus will be on Science and History. We will be thinking about what’s inside our bodies and linking this with our Health Promoting Schools work on Healthy lifestyles. Watch out for the Life Education Caravan and the Healthy Week in October. After the half term break we will be thinking about how we find out about the past and developing skills for Historical research. We will be having a Visit from History off the page where we shall be re-enacting the Great Fire of London!

PE: Miss Hall will be taking us for PE on Friday mornings. She is going to keep everyone fit with lots of games and fun activities. We will also be thinking about listening and responding to music through dance in our class lessons on Mondays.

Music:  We will be following the ‘Music Express’ Scheme and learning about different instruments and developing our listening skills.
