Welcome to Squirrel Class!
Mrs MacBean & Mrs Garbutt
The Christian values for July is: Hope.
We enjoyed designing, making and tasting ice lollies to finish our 'Freeze it' topic. To get us into the mood for summer we have now started the IPC topic, 'Hooray, let's go on holiday!'. Lots of exciting learning to follow!
We have finally finished our stories based on 'The Magic Faraway Tree' by Enid Blyton. The children spent a long time planning, writing and editing these wonderful stories. Please take time to open the PDFs and read them.
We have started our new IPC topic, 'Freeze It!'. As part of our knowledge harvest the children thought of questions they would like to investigate. Here are some examples:
What temperature does ice melt at?
What are the molecules like in icecream because it moves around more like a liquid?
Why does ice sometimes melt fast?
What happens if we don't drink enough water?
How are molecules made?
At what temperature does water freeze in degrees c?
Why do animals need water?
On Thursday 8th January, KS1 joined together to launch our new IPC topic, 'All Dressed Up'.
First we explored different materials used for making clothes...
Each group then chose categories to sort the materials into...
Then groups swapped piles to see if they could work out how the piles had been sorted...
Finally the children designed an outfit for a toy or teddy...
We have also been exploring clothes from around the world. Which country do these outfits come from?
We are busy learning lines, songs and getting costumes ready in preparation for our Nativity (10th and 11th December). Pictures will follow!
We have had a brilliant topic week and have been learning a lot about WW2. We have been experiencing life as an evacuee, making model aeroplanes, following war time recipes using rations, making poppies and designing war time posters. To conclude the week we enjoyed a trip to Duxford IWM! Here are some of our pictures...
We looked wonderful in our costumes!
Creating war time posters.
Building a plane at Duxford IWM.
Testing our paper planes!
We welcomed 8 special visitors!
The puppies were only 3 1/2 weeks old and very cute!
This term our topic is Time Travellers.
Over the next half term we will be following a unit of work on a theme that focuses on significant events.
This unit of work is part of the International Primary Curriculum.
