Keeping Your Child Safe Online

Parental Help and Advice

Below are a series of web links and leaflets that offer advice and support for parents. These are updated on a regular basis in order to stay relevant as technology is ever evolving.

  • How To Set Up Parental Controls The 4 big internet providers in the UK – BT, Sky, TalkTalk and Virgin Media - provide their customers with free parental controls which can be activated at any time. They have come together to produce these helpful video guides to help you to download and set-up the controls offered by your provider.
  • Supporting Young People Online Leaflet is advice for parents that outlines the SMART rules we follow as a school and actively teach our children to follow to help develop safe online behaviours.
  • Report Remove from Childline has been set up to help young people under 18 in the UK to confidentially report sexual images and videos of themselves and remove them from the internet.
  • Online Gaming: Information for Parents Internet safety advice is directly applicable to the gaming environment. It is essential that children are aware of the potential issues and are given the skills and knowledge to help manage and reduce these risks, with the help of those around them. This leaflet explores the online gaming environment and provides a wealth of safety advice.
  • A Parents' Guide To Technology This resource provides advice and information to make decisions on what technology your child should access and at what age. These are not legal rules but are a good set of key points to think about when allowing your child access to technology at home.
  • Reporting Advice for Adults and Young People Most services have rules about what kind of content is allowed on the site. Often if something is harassing an individual, inappropriate or violent it breaks the rules. You can report this kind of content using the reporting tools on the sites.
  • Online Abuse This is a leaflet from the NSPCC outlining key behaviours and signs that a child might be experiencing online abuse and details of support services.

Parental Resources

Below are a collection video resources that can used at home to support understanding and build positive relationships around technology, ensuring that if issues occur, your child/ren feel able to speak out and know what safe behaviours online look like.

The Digiduck collection has been created to help parents and teachers educate children aged 3 - 7 about how to be a good friend online.

The SMART rules collection has been created to help explain the key rules to develop safe online behaviours which we follow as a school suitable for ages 6 - 9.

E-Safety Parent Talk 2023 At Castle Camps School, we hold a parental workshop and talk every couple of years to give an opportunity to mark suitable resources and give a platform for parents and carers to listen to the current risks and safeguards.
