  • Learning about Florence Nightingale

    Thu 06 Feb 2020 Miss O’Connor
Florence Nightingale’s work during the Crimean War earned her the well-deserved honour of being considered the mother of modern nursing. Less well recognised, however, is her involvement with the development of nutritional services for the military. So today, the children in Squirrel Class researched the impact of Florence Nightingale’s methods and explored the importance of good nutrition as an aid to recovery in hospital patients. Over the course of the day, the children worked together to make a delicious vegetable soup for everyone to enjoy. To accompany the soup, was freshly baked soda bread - again, made by the children. Just like Florence, they ensured food preparation areas were kept scrupulously clean and that all notes were recorded meticulously, too!

The parents of those children will be contacted (by letter) today and have until Monday, 10th February to sign up for a place. After Monday, I will be opening up the Club to the rest of the school, if there are spaces available. Thank you.

  • Department for Education: Coronavirus Information for Parents

    Tue 04 Feb 2020 Miss O'Connor

The Department for Education has asked schools to share the following information with parents. Thank you.

    'Advice for parents/guardians

You should not be unduly worried about the possibility of your children catching the Coronavirus.

There is no reason why your children should not continue to attend their early years, school or further education setting as normal.

We recognise that some families or children may be planning to travel to China during the forthcoming half term period. If so, please refer to the FCO’s latest travel advice via the link above.

    What action you can take

A UK wide campaign has been launched to provide clear advice on how to slow the spread of Coronavirus.

Please help to support the campaign which promotes basic hygiene practices, such as regularly washing hands and always sneezing into a tissue, to stem the spread of viruses.'
