  • Hello, from all of us

    Tue 24 Mar 2020 Miss O'Connor

To all our parents & carers,

School seems very quiet without the majority of the children here and all the staff and I hoping that things are going well at home. Although we are officially closed until further notice, we do remain open for the children of key workers and we are still at the end of the phone, or via the office email. To support home learning, please check your child's class page on the website each Monday for a suggestion of activities that they could complete over the week. https://www.castlecampsschool.co.uk/class-pages/

We are sending you all our best wishes and hope this awful situation ends as soon as possible. Until we see you all again, stay home and stay safe. We will be in touch very soon.

Everyone at Castle Camps Primary School.

  • Key Worker Update

    Fri 20 Mar 2020 Miss O'Connor

Key Worker Update: In the early hours of this morning, we received an updated key worker list from the government and new guidance. The information sent is quite different to the advice we received yesterday from the DfE.

As a matter of urgency, please check your emails today, as a new letter will be sent home to parents. Please follow the guidance and return the form to us, if at all possible by 1pm so we can plan staffing accordingly.

If workers think they fall within the critical categories listed in the letter and guidance (see link) they should confirm with their employer that, based on their business continuity arrangements, their specific role is necessary for the continuation of this essential public service.

Please remember that social distancing remains imperative if we are to slow the spread of this virus and protect our families. The government has asked parents to keep their children at home, wherever possible, and asked schools to remain open only for those children who absolutely need to attend. I would urge all parents to explore all other options. Thank you for your patience.

  • Important: UK School Closures

    Wed 18 Mar 2020 Miss O’Connor

    Castle Camps School Closure:
Thank you to all our families for your understanding and support during what has been an extremely challenging time.

As you will have heard tonight, all schools across the UK will be closed as of the end of this week. The broadcast has left us all with many questions, and over the next couple of days the Cambridgeshire Headteachers will be working closely with the Local Authority to find a way forward.

Information from the Department of Education has, to date, been brief and how we will be asked to support childcare for key workers and our more vulnerable children has not, as yet, been specified. As soon as more information becomes available, parents and carers will be notified. I regret that I can not give any more detail at present, but please be assured that all our staff are fully committed to providing this support.

It is our intention for the school to remain fully operational for the rest of this week, with contingency plans in place for staff required to self-isolate and work from home. Classes and clubs will run as normal and additional safety measures to prevent the spread of the virus remain in place. We will also respect parents’ right to self-isolate their children prior to closure.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff, for their hard work and support. Please be aware that many have opted to remain in school, or have offered to increase their hours to cover staff absences, despite meeting the ‘vulnerable’ criteria to self-isolate. They have gone the extra mile and I know that they will continue to do so.

Finally, the children have - as always - been truly amazing and are a credit to you all. Please be assured that they will continue to remain our absolute focus during the weeks and months ahead.

  • Planning in the Moment: Hedgehog Class

    Wed 11 Mar 2020 Miss O’Connor
A message from Mrs Lawson in Hedgehog Class: ‘We were reading ‘Oliver's Vegetables’ and the children did not believe me that chips are just a potato cut up.  So we asked Mrs Cross for some spare potatoes, peeled them, chopped them annd made chips. Then we went and did PE whilst they were cooking to work up an appetite and came back to enjoy our homemade chips! The next day,we made vegetable crisps from beetroot, parsnips and carrots.’
